The Multi C-air comes with a range of key features to aid pressure management, postural control and comfort. The key features listed below are standard, you can purchase additional features and these are detailed in the Optional Accessories Section.
Mechanisms
The Multi C-air is available with either a Dual Tilt in Space (DTIS) or a Single Tilt in Space (STIS) mechanism. The Tilt in Space (TIS) movement allows the seat to back angle to remain the same whilst the whole seating system is tilted backwards which prevents shearing and friction.
The Dual Tilt in Space mechanism has more positional movement options than the STIS one as it also has independent backrest recline and independent leg rest movement. This enables a greater range of positions to aid pressure management, postural control and comfort.
There is also the option of VAL Technology on both these mechanisms, but only on the medium and large sized chairs.
For further details on these mechanisms, with video clips, visit the Mechanism Section. |

Pressure Management Back Cushions
There is a choice of six interchangeable and adjustable pressure management back cushions that enable the chair to be adapted to a single user’s changing needs or to adapt the chair to another user. This ensures greater longevity of its usage.
In addition, all cushions can be repositioned to suit a user’s individual seating preferences and fibres added or removed from fibre filled cushions to adjust firmness. Covers can also be removed for cleaning or replacement. See Back Cushion Section for details on the individual cushions. |
 |
Pressure Management Seat Cushions
The Multi C-air comes with a choice of nine interchangeable seat cushions each with different pressure management features. You can purchase one or more cushions to support the different needs of individuals who may use this chair.
Cushions and covers are removable for cleaning or replacement. With all these seat cushions we recommend a fabric with four way stretch properties to aid reduction of shear and friction. See Seat Cushion Section for details on the individual cushions. |
 |
Chaise Cover
The Multi C-air benefits from a single, full chaise cover. This chaise reduces the risk of pressure areas developing due to pinch points and shear and friction when the chair reclines. Designed with a memory foam insert the chaise offers deep comfort.
The chaise cover and memory foam can be removed for cleaning and replacement. |
 |
Glides
The Multi C-air comes with heavy duty glides built-in as standard. You can upgrade to four heavy duty lockable castors, the front set being lockable and swivel. The back set are none-swivel.
Please note that the castors will increase the seat height measurements shown in Sizes Section by 1” (25.4mm). |
|
The following features can be purchased to enhance the functionality of the chair.
Seat Depth Adjustment
The Multi C-air comes with the option to alter the seat depth with a choice of two sets of detachable adjuster pads, 25.4mm (1″) or 50.8mm (2″).
The seat depth should be long enough to support the upper part of the legs whilst allowing the back to rest comfortably on the backrest. If the seat is too long the user is likely to slouch in the chair to get their feet on the floor, which puts extra pressure on their lower spine, if too short it will cause additional pressure on the thighs risking potential skin breakdown. |
 |
Seat Height Adjustment
For a taller person the seat height and leg rest length can be adjusted. This will ensure that the user’s feet can be placed flat on the floor and that they have the correct leg rest length to support the legs. The height adjusters add 50.8mm (2″) to the seat height. |
 |
Full Length Arm Covers
To protect the arms you can purchase a pair of arm covers in matching fabric for these high wear areas. |
 |
Headrests
There are five headrests to choose from, all of which come with a weighted tab allowing them to fit over the top cushions. For further details on each of these options please refer to the Headrest Section.
- Head roll
- Small head pillow
- Small profile headrest
- Large profile headrest
- Midline headrest

Multi C-air Riser Recliner Overall Weight Limits
The Multi C-air Riser Recliner has a weight limit of 127 Kg (20 stone) as standard on the small model. On the medium and large models the maximum user weight is up to 159 Kg (25 stone). The maximum leg rest weight limit is 57 Kg (9 stone) on all models.
Seat Cushion Weight Limits
Certain pressure management seat cushion options have their own overall weight limits, including the Celliform and Dynaform, details of which can be found in the Seat Cushion Section. The maximum leg rest weight limit is unaffected by the seat cushion.

The most important aspect to consider before purchasing any healthcare chair are the seating positions that are required to aid the conditions of the client and address any pressure and postural management needs.
The Multi C-air is available with either a Dual Tilt in Space (DTIS) or Single Tilt in Space (STIS) mechanism. Each mechanism we offer is available in different sizes. Please check the Sizes Section for all user weights and dimensions before selecting your chair. For demonstrations of the mechanisms described below please watch the relevant videos.
If you would like to find out about what mechanisms are available on other healthcare chairs from the Repose range please contact the sales department on 01384 567401.
Dual and Single Tilt in Space
DTIS and STIS (Common features)
The Tilt in Space movement features on both these mechanisms. It allows the seat to back angle to remain the same whilst the whole seating system is tilted backwards. This ensures that the angle of the hips, knees and ankles remain unaffected and the weight on the Ischial Tuberosities is reduced by redistributing the weight through the back. This constant angle also prevents shear and friction during movement.
This feature can also help when transferring someone in a sling as it can support better pelvic positioning by using gravity to position the user in the back of the chair in the optimal position.
Both these mechanisms have a rise position. As the chair rises the seat tilts forward slightly, transferring the weight to the knees whilst taking away the pressure from your hips thus allowing you to walk away more easily from the chair. The seat angle can be changed to provide further support by choosing the VAL Technology.
Dual Tilt In Space

Single Tilt In Space

DTIS (Only)
As well as the Tilt in Space and Rise functions, described above, the Dual Tilt in Space mechanism also features an independent backrest recline and independent leg rest movement:
- The independent recline allows the user to maintain flexibility over their body’s position, particularly the amount of hip flexion, enabling them to maximise comfort as well as managing health needs.
- The independent leg rest offers the user additional flexibility over positioning, allowing them to either use it in conjunction with the recline feature to create the optimal posture for their body shape.
VAL Technology
An optional mechanism can be fitted under the chair that allows the rise angle to be set to support individuals to a standing position. Choose from three positions 10º, 20º or 30º. The higher the angle the lower the front of the chair becomes, providing more support when moving from a sitting to a standing position. A simple pin system allows you to set the angle required.
There is a choice of 5 detachable headrests all attached with a weighted tab.
If you would like to find out about what headrest cushions are available on other healthcare chairs from the Repose range please contact the sales department on 01384 567401.
Head Roll
The head roll is useful to reduce depth for anyone with reduced neck extension or needing to keep their head in a neutral position for tasks such as eating or drinking whilst maximising comfort and reducing effort.
Small Head Pillow
The small head pillow provides additional comfort for those who may require a softer surface to rest on whilst stopping hyper-extension at the neck when reclined or tilted.
Small Profile Headrest
Similar to the large profile headrest but support is focused more on the head and neck.
Large Profile Headrest
This headrest provides a combination of lateral support at the head, neck and shoulders whilst offering additional comfort and reducing neck extension.
Midline Headrest
The midline headrest provides postural support for those with some form of midline deficit, following a stroke resulting in proprioceptive deficit or unilateral neglect for example. It is also useful for those with reduced lateral muscle strength or tolerance (such as sternocleinomastoid).
